Newton, MA (September 2009) – Sapers & Wallack was recently named a finalist for the Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Award for the small business category. As one of five worthy nominees in the small business category, the finalists were recognized on October 15th at the annual awards dinner at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge.
The Massachusetts Family Business Award honors and highlights the outstanding achievements of Massachusetts based, multi-generational, family owned businesses. The annual awards program brings together the leaders in family business throughout the state.
Sapers & Wallack is a third generation business whose professionals specialize in insurance, group benefits, executive benefits, retirement planning, investment management and charitable concepts with its roots dating back to 1932. This past year, Sapers & Wallack celebrated its 77th anniversary. The firm serves hundreds of clients across New England, including Fortune 1000 corporations, non-profits, closely-held firms, public, private, family businesses, venture-backed start-ups and individuals.
The firm was established in 1932 by Abraham “Abe” Sapers, who originally started his career in insurance as a Sun Life Agent. Abe, who wanted to become independent, was extremely family-oriented and persuaded his son Bill to help with the business. The two established a firm where Bill worked as a sub-agent until he was discharged from service during the Korean War. Bill soon introduced a partner to the firm, Norman Wallack, and the two became wonderful partners.
Today, the firm is lead by CEO Aviva Sapers, who is the daughter of Bill and granddaughter of Abe, and President Ed Wallack, son of Norman.
“We are thrilled to be nominated for this award and even more delighted to have been named a finalist among such an impressive list of companies in Massachusetts,” said CEO Aviva Sapers. “We have always been in the business to protect families, and it’s important to us to be recognized as a premier family business in the state.”
