A 73 year old male had a growth oriented investment portfolio that he did not rely on for income.
The client was recently laid off from a consulting position. Due to his change of professional circumstances, he needed to replace the loss of his salary with income from his investment portfolio; however, he still wanted to preserve a portion of his principal to have something to leave to his children upon his death.
A professional at Sapers & Wallack customized an “Income For Life Model” that provided him a monthly income designed to grow above the cost of living rate to replace his salary earnings. His investment portfolio was modified to contain more conservative investments which are used to provide near-term income while the more aggressive investments are allowed to grow for a longer time period and will be passed down to his heirs in later years.
The client was able to continue to live at the comfort level he had enjoyed when he was employed while still able to meet his goal of leaving behind income from his investment portfolio to his heirs.

A married couple ages 62 and 63 who were nearing their retirement.
The clients were planning on retiring in three years and needed help transitioning from the accumulation phase to the distribution phase. They wanted to replace their salaries with the income from their investment portfolios.
A member of Sapers & Wallack created an investment portfolio that was divided up into three year bonds. When the set matured three years after implementation, the couple was ready to retire and was able to replace their annual income with the distribution of the interest. At the same time, the principal was allocated the principal into a new set of bonds that would mature rapidly over the next three years.
The couple was able to retire on their own terms and continue to live at the comfort level they enjoyed when they were employed while still able to meet their goal of leaving behind income from their investment portfolio to their heirs.
